FAQ

How much does Astra cost?

On the Standard API tier, Astra pricing is $10 / 1M input and $50 / 1M output (plus $1 cached input and $12.50 cache writes), . Batch and Flex are half of Standard; Fast is double; Ultrafast’s published short-context card is $60 / $6 / $75 / $300 per 1M. Over 272K input tokens, input and cache rates ×2 and output ×1.5 for the whole request. See the API cost and 272K pages, then verify on OpenAI’s docs.

Is ChatGPT subscription the same as Astra API pricing?

No. A ChatGPT / Plus / Pro subscription is separate from metered API usage. This calculator estimates API token costs only.

OpenAI paused ChatGPT Pro $200 / 20X — should I use the API for heavy Astra instead?

As of September 2026, OpenAI paused new ChatGPT Pro $200 (Pro 20X) sign-ups and upgrades because of Astra demand. A $100 Pro plan may still be available; Plus and the API remain open. A ChatGPT Pro seat is not the same as metered GPT-6 Astra API usage. For heavy Astra work, estimate token spend with this unofficial calculator (Standard $10 / $50 per 1M) rather than assuming a Pro subscription covers API volume. Confirm plan availability on OpenAI’s Pro help page or TechCrunch’s report.

When does the 272K long-context cliff apply?

OpenAI’s pricing page defines short context as 272K input tokens or fewer and long context as more than 272K. The multipliers (2× input and cache rates, 1.5× output) apply to the whole request. This calculator triggers when uncached input + cached input + cache writes is greater than 272,000, because those three counts partition input_tokens. Output tokens do not trip it. Worked boundary math: Astra 272K pricing.

What are Batch, Flex, Fast, and Ultrafast?

On the pricing page, Batch and Flex are half the Standard card and Fast is double. Ultrafast is a separate card: $60 input, $6 cached input, $75 cache writes, and $300 output per 1M tokens at or under 272K. Swap tiers in the calculator or read the Astra API cost guide. Long-context prices for every tier are on the 272K pricing page.
